A Claybrook Court homeowner discovered his detached garage attic burning  Friday about 10:40 a.m. and called Bargersville Community Fire Department.

Firefighters found a hot fire deeply embedded in the attic and primarily fueled by boxes of paper documents.

Intense heat had built up in the attic of the Claybourne subdivision garage, near Smokey Row and Morgantown roads, and was quickly raising temperatures to explosive levels.

Firefighters immediately took a fire hose up the interior garage ladder to the attic. Outside, a team of firefighters raised ladders to a steep roof and cut a ventilation hole.

The hole allowed extreme heat and dense smoke to escape, thus reducing the possibility of an expanding blaze or explosion The fire was  brought under control in about 15 minutes with hot spots buried within the documents.

A hole was cut in the garage ceiling and fiery debris was dropped through it to the floor and doused with water.

Preliminary damage estimates range from $30,000 at $50,000.
